First Psychology Assistance

Former Advanced Skills Academy members

First Psychology Scotland is committed to supporting those in the early stages of their therapeutic careers, or in the final stages of doctoral training in applied psychology, to develop their skills and undertake advanced practice in an independent sector setting. In 2018 we established our First Psychology Academy. This provides a supported training and supervised framework. We offer employment opportunities as part of a dedicated programme for those wishing to develop advanced skills in therapeutic work following graduation, or as part of an advanced doctoral training in psychology. We currently run two separate programmes, and recruit for them each year.

Advanced skills practitioners (counselling and applied psychology)

This one or two-year employment programme is designed for those in advanced stages of doctoral training in counselling or applied psychology. The programme offers focused professional support, advanced training, clinical supervision (individual and facilitated group), and the opportunity to undertake placement practice within an independent sector context. We seek to work with highly skilled and experienced applicants, and have clear thresholds around prior training, clinical experience and professional competence. The programme commences in October each year.  To express an interest in receiving further information when available please email us at hello@firstpsychology.co.uk

It is designed to provide additional training, support, clinical supervision and the opportunity to undertake clinical practice within an independent sector context. The training programme focuses on the acquisition of professional skills, moving into the development of pluralistic working via a training programme exploring the articulation between counselling/psychotherapy and the CBT framework including introductory CBT skills, schema therapy, ACT and mindfulness-based therapeutic approaches.
